Our History

Founded by Robert "Mac" West as part of his consulting practice, Informal Learning Experiences, the Informal Learning Review began as a mailed publication six times a year, sharing research and insights on the informal learning industry. It transitioned to a digital format, featuring articles, essays, case studies, and reviews to explore industry trends.

In 2023, the Informal Learning Review transitioned to an independent board of co-editors, with Mac West remaining involved as a co-editor. COSI, the Center of Science & Industry in Columbus, Ohio, became the fiscal agent and publisher, allowing the publication to be offered for free, expanding readership and removing financial barriers.

Established as an independent publication over 30 years ago, the Informal Learning Review remains committed to reflecting the diverse voices and perspectives of its contributors and readership.
